Smoke Detectors

Did you know that 73% of all fire related deaths occur in homes without smoke detectors?
Fact

In a test of smoke detectors, it was found that installing one smoke detector outside your bedroom door would provide at least three minutes of warning 35% of the time, while installing an additional alarm on every floor would provide at least three minutes of warning 89% of the time.
Fact

Households with the highest overall fire rates in the United States have the fewest smoke detectors.
What you can do

  1. Install smoke detectors in every bedroom and on every floor.
  2. Test your smoke detectors weekly.
  3. Replace batteries in your smoke detector once a year, or on the first sign of a weak or low battery power alarm, which most smoke detectors will do.
  4. Never borrow a smoke detectors battery to operate any other battery operated equipment.
  5. Replace smoke detectors after ten years of working use.

Prevention is the cure. Education is the key.
